Gmail and text encoding

Using English (US) language version we can setup the outgoing messages encoding in Settings>General tab. We can choose from:
  • default encoding (depends of language settings)
  • Unicode (UTF-8)

Google Talk Easter Egg

There is an Easter Egg hidden in Google Talk. It is "Hunt the Wumpus" game. To play it you have to add wumpus.game@gmail.com contact and type play.
P.S.
"play 23 21 13 16 21 19 7 1 13 5" in About window means "“play wumpus game"”.

Google Talk

Google released its IM software called Google Talk which will give you text and voice messaging. To use it you need Gmail account.

Invite by SMS

US mobile users can request free SMS with an invitation code by filling a form on this site. 10 invitations per mobile number are available. Submitted mobile number can be saved in Google Account settings and can be used to receive upcoming SMS alerts or secure password recovery message.

New languages

Following new language versions of Gmail user interface have been added:
  • Bulgarian
  • Croatian
  • Greek
  • Hungarian
  • Icelandic
  • Indonesian
  • Latvian
  • Serbian
  • Slovak
  • Slovenian
  • Ukrainian
  • Vietnamese
This means that Gmail is available in 29 language versions. Thanks to the work of volunteer translators more languages will be added soon.

Customize the 'From:' address pt.2

If you can wait for official enabling of senders field name customization you can use this link. It will let you add alternative email addresses and after their verification you can choose which one to use in compose window. Unfortunately without updating you account you cannot change those settings. All you have to do is to wait when this setting will be officially enabled or change the language settings to English US where you'll get it in Settings>Accounts tab.

Customize the 'From:' address

New feature has been enabled on some accounts. From now on customizing of From: address field is possible. This way the recepient of your messages will see your alternative email address as sender. To select the address you'd like to use to send the message you can use the drop-down menu in the compose message window.
P.S.
Gmail will send a validation code to your alternative account. It is required to complete the registering process.
